On 7th January, 1915 the 1st Bedfordshire battalion of 15 Brigade, 5th Division left their support positions in Dranouter and moved into trenches at Wulverghem, south of the Wulverghem-Messines road. These new trenches were in a very bad condition, full of water and with the sides falling in but nevertheless it was where they had to remain until relieved on 10th January. The main danger here was from enemy snipers and on 8th January, the day on which Thomas Dunn was killed, they accounted for the deaths of six men from the battalion. |
